The Glorification of Martyrs and “Martyrdom” 17 In February 2024, Fatah representatives in Jenin held a memorial ceremony for seven “martyrs” killed in IDF airstrikes in the city. Six of the seven were from the same family, killed after one of them allegedly threw an explosive device at IDF forces. The governor of Jenin, Kamal Abu Al-Rub, and Fatah officials participated in the ceremony. 129
16 A street in Ramallah was named after Yahya Ayyash , a senior member of Hamas’s military wing in the 1990s, who was responsible for preparing explosives and car bombs used in attacks, including deadly suicide bombings that claimed the lives of dozens of Israeli civilians and injured hundreds. 128
The PA allows the promotion of “martyrdom” messages through its official television. In a broadcast (December 2023), Samer Jaber, the father of the terrorist Mahmoud Jaber, said: “My son sought martyrdom, and praise is to Allah, he achieved it.” In addition, Fathi Abu Zahra, the father of the terrorist As’ad Abu Zahra, said: “The Zionist entity (Israel) must know that if they kill one, ten will grow in their place. We are all sacrifices for Palestine ... Palestine is very dear to us. Whatever we need to give for it , we will and want to give whatever is needed to liberate it .” 130
