Restatements

1. Although there is usually no need to carry extra food and water, we always do so anyway, for safety’s sake.

(1) In this case, there is no need to bring extra supplies in order to be safe. (2) As a safety precaution, we take extra provisions, even though we probably won’t need them. (3) Additional food and water are not needed, but all other safety measures are carefully observed. (4) As long as we bring along enough food and water, we’ll be safe.

2. Professional athletes should not be able to retain awards which they have won by cheating.

(1) Professional athletes are not allowed to succeed by competing unfairly, nor to keep the awards won in unfair competition. (2) Professional athletes who won prizes dishonestly should be denied the opportunity to keep these prizes. (3) The prizes won by professional athletes should not be given to those who cheat. (4) When professional athletes are unable to win except by cheating, they do not deserve to be given awards.

3 . Finally, nothing is left undone in preparation for the trip.

(1) We have everything ready for the trip at last. (2) There is really nothing that we needed to do in order to prepare for this final trip. (3) Anything that hasn’t yet been done to prepare for the trip will simply have to be left undone. (4) Preparations are finally being made for our trip.

4. All of the musicians have arrived except for the pianist and the drummer, who are on their way here.

(1) The pianist and drummer will not be coming, but all the rest of the musicians are on the way. (2) The pianist, the drummer, and all of the rest of the musicians will be arriving soon. (3) The pianist and the drummer are the only ones who have arrived so far, but the rest of the musicians are coming. (4) The pianist and the drummer are coming but haven’t yet arrived, while all of the other musicians are already here.
