Music The International Oud Festival | Jerusalem
The 26 th International Oud Festival is taking place this month, crossing borders, traditions and cultures. This year’s guest of honor is international artist and maestro N. Ravikiran, who will be playing classical music from the south of India, his home country. Main events and performances include an opening concert with Ehud Banai, Yair Delal’s 70 th birthday celebration with a host of guest performers, and Yehuda Poliker’s closing show, marking the 40 th anniversary of the launch of his album “Einaim sheli”, as well as many special concerts celebrating the musical traditions of the Levant. Chamber Music The Eilat Chamber Music Festival More than 80 leading musicians from 15 different countries will be coming to Israel to perform at the Eilat Chamber Music Festival, a four-day celebration of the power of live music. Among the countries taking part are Germany, the USA, France, Italy, South Korea, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, with program highlights including a special show with Israeli hip-hop artist Shaanan Streett and an ensemble of percussionists and string players from Spain and Italy, and a concert with the State Choir of Georgia. This year, for the first time, the festival is collaborating with the Astral Hotel chain which will be hosting concerts at two of its locations, the Astral Terminal and the Queen of Sheba Hotel. In addition, festivalgoers will be able to purchase a sort of open ticket (limited and based on availability) allowing them to wander through the various museum galleries and see intimate performances and special art installations. Program highlights include a Hava Alberstein tribute concert, an evening celebrating the work of Yemeni poet Aharon Amram z”l, a Shuli Rand concert, and a special show with Shlomi Shaban and guests.
