Editor’s Letter

Each month for the past two years my letter to you here ended with a prayer for the return of all of our hostages. Now, after the immense collective relief at seeing those who survived come home, as well as some of the bodies of those who did not, I wish to begin it by expressing hope for the return of the remaining bodies, and a prayer for the safe return of our heroic soldiers still on the frontlines. It feels as though we can now finally take a deep breath and perhaps let go a little of the guilt that has accompanied us as we continued living our lives while our compatriots were in captivity. This month, opportunities for fun family outings abound, as November has been declared “Israel Tourism Month” by the Ministry of Tourism with the aim to encourage domestic tourism. Hundreds of businesses across the country - hotels, museums, culture centers, and more - will be offering major discounts and advantages (more information on p.6 and online at israeltourismmonth.co.il). Throughout these past two years, we’ve given a platform to businesses in the south and the north to help them recover, urging our readers to explore

these wonderful parts of the country. This month we made our way to the northern Golan Heights, a spectacularly beautiful region with gorgeous landscapes and a fascinating history - a fantastic destination any time of year. We spent 24 hours exploring its lesser-known corners and came back with a host of recommendations for you to enjoy. This month we’re also bringing you the lowdown on the coffee cart trend that has recently taken over Israel, with a list of our top spots, north to south, where you can sip on perfect espresso while admiring breathtaking views. And as always, our magazine is full of ideas and recommendations for what to see and do this month, with an overview of some of the most anticipated cultural events, tourism news and updates, as well as a taste of some of the most notable new restaurants that aren’t located in the big cities, our selection of the latest tech novelties, and more. Wishing you a pleasant read and a peaceful flight, Nava Marton @nava.marton I nava@atmospheres.co.il

The JNF is upgrading the Moshe Sharett memorial site | The KKL-JNF is upgrading the Moshe Sharett memorial site and lookout deck in HaMeginim Forest. Located at the highest point in the forest, the site commemorates the life of Israel’s second ever Prime Minister and first ever Minister of Foreign Affairs. A new memorial wall with information and historical photographs is in the process of being added to the site, as well as a short, accessible walking path leading to the nearby parking lot. A picnic area and facilities for visitors and hikers will also be built around the lookout deck.

New walking paths opening around the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve | The Ein Gedi Nature Reserve, which includes the Nahal David trail, is still recovering from the unusual flood that severely damaged the promenade infrastructure, with some of the trails having lately reopened, including one going from Tel Goren to the Ein Gedi Spring and Dodim Cave, as well as another leading to the Dry Canyon. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority has also reopened the short trail along Nahal David which leads to the first waterfall and back. The section between the first waterfall and the David Waterfall, including the connection to Dodim Cave will remain closed until the reserve is fully rehabilitated, so there’s currently no direct access to the David Waterfall.

Israel Tourism Month | All through November, hundreds of businesses from across the country will be taking part in the “Israel Tourism Month”. A large-scale national initiative led by the Ministry of Tourism at a cost of NIS 10 million, the project aims to encourage domestic tourism in Israel. A multitude of experiences will be on offer, be it in the spheres of accommodation, sports, workshops, museums, live shows, wellness, etc., according to geographic area - Jerusalem, the North, Tel Aviv, and the South. All sorts of advantages such as free tours or experiences at the symbolic price of NIS 18 will be on offer, as well as hotel discounts (of at least 25%), and more. Special live events will also be held on Fridays, from 10am to 3pm, with live shows by leading Israeli artists alongside food stalls featuring the best of local produce (israeltourismmonth.co.il).

The Abraham Group wins top global youth travel award

The Abraham Group has won the 2025 Global Youth Travel Awards in the “Best Local Community Engagement” category (for the fourth time). The award was presented at the World Youth & Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in Lisbon, Portugal. The annual WYSTC Awards recognize organizations and individuals who have demonstrated leadership, creativity, and commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable youth travel. The judges noted that during the war, the Abraham Group demonstrated how a tourism business can become a real social lever, as indeed, Abraham hostels in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Eilat became emergency centers for hundreds of evacuee families. Also, in tandem with the Gvanim Association, the group launched the “Abraham’s Tent” program, which invites people to come together to process the trauma and grief brought on by the events of these past years.

Performing Arts De Tango y Sombras – Marcos Ayala | Across Israel De Tango y Sombras, a show by dancer and choreographer Marcos Ayala - one of the most important figures in the world of tango - is considered one of the most powerful and exciting tango performances ever seen on stage. Immersive and full of intense drama, the show combines virtuosity, a riveting storyline, dramatic lighting, and powerful music. De Tango y Sombras is Ayala’s bold new stage adaptation of his earlier work, Tango in the Shadows, which depicted a poetic journey between darkness and light inspired by the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone, in which strong characters, inner worlds, and emotional struggles are intertwined. Check-in I Our Guide

For the perfect first ski experience: 8 tips to get you organized Skiing trips require a bit of planning, especially if it’s your first one. Our skiing holiday’s beginner’s guide will help you ensure you’ve got everything covered / By Arie Zanzuri

boots are a critical item that must be well-fitted, so opt for leading brands. Items worth purchasing include thermal clothing, a jacket, waterproof ski/snowboard pants (you can also rent them, but if you plan to ski again, it’s a good investment), waterproof ski gloves, ski socks (preferably seamless to prevent them chafing against the boots), and goggles, which are a must. 06 Prepare yourself physically . Skiing requires a significant physical effort. Start strengthening your leg and core muscles around a month prior to your trip, to reduce the risk of injury and enhance balance and flexibility. 07 Insurance and safety. Make sure your insurance covers ski-related issues - regular medical insurance does not cover ski injuries or medical flights. Be aware that UV rays are especially strong when reflected by the snow, so use a high-factor sunscreen and don’t forget to protect your lips. Be mentally prepared for how difficult and exhausting the first day of skiing can be. Make sure you have a good breakfast and drink plenty of water (despite the cold), and get enough rest to let your muscles recover. 08 Post-ski fun. Make sure the town your resort is situated in has restaurants, cafés, spas, etc. so that you have plenty of fun and relaxing après-ski options – crucial to a successful skiing trip.

Photo: Shutterstock

01 Picking the right ski resort. Beginners need lots of blue and green trails which are best suited for first-time skiers. Spending money on a huge resort that has only one or two such trails is a waste. 02 Ski lessons. Taking lessons is key to a successful first-time skiing trip. Look for a resort that has a school with experienced teachers, preferably ones who speak English (some even offer lessons with Hebrew-speaking teachers, which can be particularly convenient for children). Make sure the lessons are either included in your package deal or easily purchasable, and check whether you need a ski pass (a personal magnetic card for using the resort’s ski facilities) as a ski school pupil or whether you only need one once you begin to ski independently.

03 Hotel location. Carrying your equipment with your ski boots on can be quite challenging, so proximity of the hotel to the lifts and resort center is a huge advantage. Look for hotels located near the slopes or that have a convenient shuttle service. 04 Value for money. Resorts in Eastern Europe (like Bansko in Bulgaria or Špindlerův Mlýn in the Czech Republic) are often considered more budget-friendly and better options for first-time skiers. 05 Equipment. First-time skiers are mostly advised to rent the heavy equipment at the resort itself and only buy clothing items. Make sure you get skis (or snowboards) and poles that are appropriate for your level. Ski/board

The Northern Golan Heights: 24 hours of fun and discovery The Northern Golan has it all: spectacular views, fascinating historical sites, and wonderful food and wine. We spent 24 exciting hours exploring places like Neve Ativ, Buq’ata, and more Golan gems - and came back with a host of experiences and recommendations for you to enjoy / By Nava Marton

From the slopes of Mount Hermon, through green fields and orchards, crystal-blue natural springs, and a myriad breathtaking observation decks, the Northern Golan Heights offer a unique combination of gorgeous landscapes and fascinating history. In the fall, the Golan fields are dotted with beautiful hollyhock blossoms, and the coming winter brings with it the hope of snowfall. We headed north for a 24-hour whirlwind of fun and exploration, only to return with a full list of recommendations for what to see and do in this oh-so-very magical part of the country. Ein Keshatot A national heritage site The winding road that leads to the Ein Keshatot national heritage site (also known as Umm el-Qanatir) gives no indication of the beauty that awaits – it is only once you find yourself on the visitors’ center observation deck that you realize how breathtakingly beautiful the surrounding landscape is. Ein Keshatot is the site of an ancient Jewish village from the times of the Mishnah. The remains of a vast synagogue, located above Samach Stream, the Sea of Galilee and the Galilee Mountains were uncovered years ago, leading to the synagogue’s full reconstruction. It was recognized

as a national heritage site in 2018, and a visitors’ center was carved directly into the mountain. The hour-and-a-half visit of the site begins with a short informative video (available in five languages) before taking a tour of the site itself. The tour path is circular and extends 800 meters. For those visiting without a tour guide, audio guides are available in Hebrew and English. The visit’s main focus is the central synagogue built in the 6 th century CE and later destroyed, along with the entire village, in a terrible earthquake that occurred in the 8 th century CE. The synagogue was reconstructed using its original stones with the help of cutting-edge technologies, and it is home to the best-kept and most ornate Torah ark yet to have been found in Israel. Another impressive stop is the beautiful archway above the nearby natural springs. Open seven days a week, the Ein Keshatot site offers a fascinating look back in time, with many guided tours and family-orientated activities available. Events such as weddings and bar mitzvahs can be organized here as well. The site is fully accessible. einkeshatot.org.il, @ein_keshatot The Odem Mountain Winery Wine tastings and gorgeous views The Odem Mountain Winery is

Lifestyle I Weekend Getaway

Now’s just the right time to take a little break somewhere beautiful with your better half. The recently opened Oaks Hotel in the Golan Heights offers the ideal location – right in the heart of Odem Forest, and provides a hospitality experience in the best of Druze tradition, along with a pampering spa and fine cuisine. Get ready for the magic of the Golan Heights / By Ariel Kars The perfect couple’s weekend: a haven of tranquility in the Golan Heights

When you arrive in the Druze village of Buq’ata in the Golan Heights, you can’t help but be overwhelmed by the beauty of Odem Forest, the largest oak forest in Israel. The Oaks Hotel is a charming boutique establishment with magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. When you arrive here, it is very easy to disconnect from the chaos of Israeli life – not least due to the fact that the hotel is intended for adults only. Hotel owner Ajouad Abu Shahin

wanted to create a place that would encourage people to come and visit the Golan. “I wanted to create a haven of tranquility; a place couples could come to, to disconnect. Opening during challenging times is also an expression of confidence in the future of our beautiful region”, he explains. An invitation to fall in love Oaks is located in one of the most beautiful places in the country, at an altitude of 1,200m above

sea level. It is a modern, superbly designed hotel, each detail having been meticulously thought through. The second floor opens onto a large communal space where you can relax on comfortable sofas, read, play snooker or chess, etc., and on the roof, there is a heated pool enveloped by large windows that look out onto the forest that is open year-round. There’s also a small gym and a large flower-laden observation deck. The rooftop bar offers a light menu, refreshing

cocktails, and breathtaking views. This is also where breakfast (which is kosher) is served in the mornings, and it is the ideal place to enjoy a glass of wine (selected from one of the Golan wineries), or a refreshing cocktail at sunset. Rest, drink, and be merry The rooms here are spacious, cozy, and elegantly designed. Some have a private balcony facing Mount Hermon, others also include a sauna. On the lower floor of the hotel there is an excellent spa where you can enjoy an authentic Turkish hammam, saunas, Jacuzzi tubs, and various spa and beauty treatments. Everything is geared towards relaxation and disconnection from everyday life. The culinary variety here is also notable: as mentioned, breakfast is taken in the rooftop restaurant, and comprises an abundant buffet bedecked with freshly baked goods of every kind, Druze cardamom coffee, and more. Lunch and dinner are based on traditional Druze flavors and local cuisine but with a modern twist. The hotel restaurant, Lusper, is a luxurious steakhouse that combines Druze cuisine with contemporary flavors, offering a varied menu based on locally sourced ingredients. Dishes include: chicken maskhan with caramelized onions, baharat, and tabun-baked bread, shish tawook with chicken, mashwiya salad, tzatziki and green salad, beef fillet with potato cream, asparagus, artichoke fries and demi-glace, and more. After dinner, you can head over to the beautifully decorated hotel bar and enjoy a rich variety of spirits and locally-produced wines, served in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. to outside guests). oaks-hotel.com ˆ
