Wine has been produced here for over 3,000 years. Indeed, remains of ancient winepresses and wine amphoras have been uncovered here under every hill. The area’s terroir has been deemed especially good for winegrowing, and there are hundreds of vineyards across the region, which counts over 50 boutique wineries that together form Israel’s only official wine route. The region is also the only one in the country to have its own EU-approved “appellation”, granting wineries the possibility to add the “Yehuda” “appellation” label to their bottles. And beyond its exceptional wine, Mateh Yehuda offers a myriad more things to explore and discover.
