A Jewish Journey of Identity and Courage

She strode over, and instinctively, I leaned back in my chair, feeling small. “Pleasure to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Levitt. I teach young Mr. Levitt in history class, and I must commend him for the extensive knowledge he displays in my classes,” she said. I blinked in surprise. Me? I glanced at Mom, who shot me a proud look. She opened her mouth to say something, but Mrs. Walker continued without pause. “To be honest, I wasn’t surprised to hear about the youth involved in sharing those disgraceful reels. However, I agree with Mr. Miller that significant measures must be taken.” Mom and Dad exchanged concerned looks, realizing it was best not to interrupt her. “Mr. Miller and I have agreed on certain actions to prevent these situations from recurring. This is incitement and violence, plain and simple. We will notify the parents of any children who share this kind of content, and they will face the same consequences as those sharing other inappropriate materials.” Mr. Miller nodded along as Mrs. Walker pressed on. “This means their parents will be summoned to the school, and the student will face a week of suspension.” I sighed, feeling disheartened. Great, Marcus would essentially get a week off. He’d see it as a reward. “Thank you very much,” Dad said. “This is the most appropriate way to handle such cases.” “I’m not finished yet, Mr. Levitt,” Mrs. Walker interrupted, silencing him. “A note will be added to their personal records, and this information will be forwarded to any educational institutions they apply to in the future. Additionally, in your son’s case, the student involved will be required to deliver a lecture to my class about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Holocaust.”
