(1) He found his daughter suitable for the job he was interviewing for, despite his biased opinion. (2) It was wrong of him to interview his daughter for the job, because he couldn’t maintain his impartiality. (3) It was difficult for him to remain objective when interviewing applicants for the job, since his daughter was one of the applicants. (4) Interviewing daughters is not an easy task to perform, even when one is impartial.

30. Widespread increases in newspaper prices have cost the papers some readers, while increasing total income.

(1) Higher prices for newspapers have resulted in higher revenues for the papers, but have somewhat reduced their number of readers. (2) Newspapers have compensated for higher costs by increasing their prices and attracting more readers. (3) Higher prices for newspapers, and therefore higher profits for the papers, have resulted in higher costs for newspaper readers. (4) While some readers object to the increases in newspaper prices, overall the papers have increased their total income.
