If you’re sitting on a plane right now and holding this magazine, it means that the missiles have ceased, and people are able to travel freely again. These times have been more than challenging and I by no means take for granted the fact that you are reading my words right now. Most of the work on this issue was carried out in times of great uncertainty, so it is truly a joy to get back to normal, and even more so to know that people can once again come and spend time in Israel. So, what better time than now to explore its less-traveled parts, such as the lovely city of Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut (Modi’in for short), which this year celebrates 30 years since its foundation. It has fascinating archaeological sites, charming little cafés and corners, a vibrant urban center with restaurants and shops, and a welcoming community eager to connect and share experiences. We spent a lovely day meeting fascinating people and making discoveries and returned with plenty of tips and recs for the perfect family day trip. For those looking to disconnect entirely and recharge their batteries, the desert is the ultimate destination. We gathered a ton of recommendations for you in this issue, with ideas for trips and attractions across the region, from Mitzpe Ramon,
to Sde Boker and the Arava, where we spent a magical weekend. Indeed, the Arava is home to the incredible Moa Living Resort, that offers an accommodation experience geared entirely towards physical and mental wellbeing. Built with an entirely ecological approach, and in complete harmony with the surrounding landscape, it is absolutely beautiful and we returned from it with all sorts of impressions and recommendations for you. Our magazine article this month is dedicated to a very special woman: Lt. Col. (res.) Irit Oren Gunders, founder of the “Or L’Mishpachot” organization that honors bereaved parents who lost their children serving in the IDF. In a special interview, Oren Gunders, recipient of the 2026 Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement, talks about her journey thus far, and her dreams for the future. And as always, you’ll find a whole host of other sections and articles in our magazine, that I hope will fill your flight time with pleasure and a sense of optimism. Wishing you a pleasant read and a peaceful flight, Nava Marton @nava.marton I nava@atmospheres.co.il
