Designer couples

Here are five Israeli designer couples that live and work together. We sat down with them and asked them how they divide their workload while remaining steered by love and a common aesthetic vision / By Adi Fogel Hollander

Guy Mishaly Design Studio Guy Mishaly and Rachel Boxnboim Designers Guy Mishaly and Rachel Boxnboim, both graduates of Bezalel’s Industrial Design Department, met and fell in love as students and have been together ever since, living and working side by side in their lighting fixture and furniture studio which they founded in 2011. Together they create handmade lighting fixtures using a wide range of materials. The two live and work in Tel Aviv, where most of their suppliers are also located, and next door to their studio they have a large exhibition space where they present their collections. Though Mishaly manages the production side of things and Rachel, customer relations and marketing, they always create their designs together, from idea to execution, harnessing each of their individual talents and abilities.

StudioKnob Adi Azar and Yotam Shifroni Designer duo Adi Azar (graduate of the Department of Visual

Communication at Shenkar College) and Yotam Shifroni (graduate of the Department of Interior Design at the Holon Institute of Technology), founded StudioKnob in 2015, an innovative furniture and lighting fixture design studio. Their work has been showcased in various exhibitions and won several awards. The studio is located just next door to the couple’s home, in Shoham, with its name, which contains within it the word “knob”, symbolizing the idea of the open door they keep between their home and work lives. Azar and Shifroni are both involved in the creative development of their projects, with Shifroni more focused on technical and production aspects, and Azar on marketing and customer relations. studioknob.com @studio_knob
