Maya Pollak I Photos: Sabina Elayev

Maya Pollak Maya Pollak studied at the Basis School for Art. She creates tapestry works that draw inspiration from the aesthetics of digital errors and glitches, which she translates through a manual process into tangible textures of threads and fabrics. Pollak explains that the connection she creates between pixels and stitches expresses the tension between the imperfections of the digital world and the beauty of real life. Her work plays on the notions of tradition, kitsch, pop culture, and nostalgia, as the painstaking art of embroidery allows her to create a dialogue with an ancient feminine tradition from a contemporary perspective. By focusing on contemporary content such as global political figures, urban spaces, public transport, and personal portraits, Pollak seeks to challenge the naive and idealistic world of traditional tapestry and ask questions about contemporary culture. mayapollak

Jerry Shai Sarig

In her artwork, she incorporates elements from the different design worlds she has experienced and gives expression to her love for landscape. She prints and digitally reworks photographs she takes on her travels in Israel and the world, and prints them in black onto canvases which she then hand embroiders onto, essentially “re painting” the image of the photograph through the embroidery. Her works have been shown in galleries in Israel and abroad. jerrysaring.com, jerryshai
