Editor’s Letter

June has arrived, and with it the holiday of Shavuot, marking the start of bathing season in Israel. It’s the perfect time to explore the country’s myriad natural springs and enjoy a picnic by the water, in sync with International Picnic Day which occurs on June 18 th . In this issue you’ll find an overview of some of our favorite spots, north to south, each one an oasis of refreshing natural spring waters and glorious landscapes. And after this refreshing dip, why not head over to the picturesque town of Pardes Hanna-Karkur to explore its vibrant hub of artists’ studios and vintage shops known as the Artists’ Stables. This fascinating microcosm of life and creativity is chockfull of amazing art, artisanry, and culinary experiences. What used to be a cluster of horse stables has been transformed into little vintage clothes shops, studios populated by artists of every kind: ceramicists, jewelry-makers, fashion designers, etc. Spending a day here offers the chance to discover so much original local art, as well as the opportunity to take some home with you. Also this month: recommendations on what to see and do on the cultural scene, a weekend getaway in Kibbutz Degania on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, a taste of a few new Italian eateries, a look at some of the most exciting tech gadgets hitting markets this season, and more. And of course, as ever, we continue to pray and hope for the release of those still held hostage in Gaza.

A new Disney theme park to open in Abu Dhabi |

Tzemach Beach undergoes extensive works |

The Walt Disney Company has announced that its seventh global theme park is set to open in Abu Dhabi. The waterfront resort and park will be located on Yas Island, a region that has grown exponentially over the last two decades to become a resort and entertainment district. The announcement came shortly after the company reported strong second-quarter earnings, with company CEO Bob Iger stating that “this is an exciting moment for us – the new park will be authentically Disney and Emirati in spirit”.

Extensive works are underway at the Sea of Galilee’s Tzemach Beach at an investment of approximately NIS 7 million funded by the Interior Ministry. The works aim to restore the beach’s eastern side which has been closed to the public until now, and include the renovation of a kosher dairy café and a kosher meat based bistro bar, the establishment of play equipment, the renovation of the beach’s main restroom facility, and the reopening of the underground passage linking the beach to the nearby parking lot. Tzemach Beach extends across 9 acres of land at the southern tip of the Sea of Galilee, near Tzemach Junction. The beach will be accessible to the public throughout the works.

revitalization of the Galilee was recently inaugurated. Indeed, the “Galilee Restart 25-30” program aims to encourage tourism in the region, in light of the cancellation of flights to Israel by foreign airlines. Launched by businesswoman and social entrepreneur Raya Strauss, and former Director General of the Ministry of Tourism Amir Halevi, this NIS 10 million project will help finance private and public companies based in the Galilee, as well as donors’ funds based in Israel and abroad geared towards raising millions for the region’s economic growth and the development of its tourism industry. Kibbutz Ortal’s glamping complex opens Kibbutz Ortal has announced the opening of its new glamping complex. The site is located at an altitude of 915m and is nestled among ancient pine, plane, and oak trees. Beyond the 30 air-conditioned tents, guests have access to a central kitchen and restroom facilities that blend into the natural environment. The glamping site is within walking distance from the kibbutz’s longstanding rural hospitality area, the horse farm, “Grineli” - the artisan dairy, and Tel Shifon Winery. Work on the glamping project began several months before the outbreak of the war and continued throughout its duration, even under fire. Ortal Glamping is one of the most beautiful glamping sites in Israel, offering an experience that combines nature with a high level of comfort.

Exhibition Chris Marker: The Lost Photographs of Israel | The Israel Museum, Jerusalem This exhibition presents still images of Israel from 1960 captured by the French photographer and film director Chris Marker, one of the postwar New Wave’s most original and influential directors. Photographed from Eilat in the south up to Kibbutz Manara in northernmost Israel, they were taken in preparation for a new type of documentary film about the young country. The film, “Description of a Struggle”, achieved renown - but the photographs vanished. A few years ago, more than 1,000 negatives from this project were discovered in the archive of the French Cinemathèque; some 120 of them have been printed for the exhibition and are displayed here for the first time. Images of everyday scenes and ordinary people, they convey the same insightful humanism that Marker brought to his films. In addition, the exhibition presents rare archival material that sheds light on how the film came to be, as well as on its reception in Israel and abroad. Until October 14 th , imj.org.il

Cycling holidays are a wonderful way to discover beautiful landscapes while enjoying a sports activity. What could be more fun than cycling along the Danube in Austria, the banks of the Amsterdam canals, or across the cobbled streets of Tuscany? Here are 5 useful tips that’ll come in handy on your next biking trip \ By Oren Herschlag 5 Top Tips for your next Cycling Trip

Use the right bike 01 City bikes with gears, either regular or electric, are usually the best option for cycling holidays. Electric bikes do have the advantage of demanding less effort to ride them, but bear in mind they’ll require timely battery charging according to the number of kilometers you plan to cover and the speed at which you’ll be riding. Stay at a biker’s hotel 02 If you’re planning a cycling trip in either Austria, Germany or the Netherlands, get ready to enter the gates of cyclists’ paradise: there are cyclist-friendly hotels and B&Bs at every turn, where not only can you lodge, but bikes can be rented or

repaired, tires inflated, and equipment stored and sheltered for the night. Plan your itinerary wisely 03 The Internet is full of websites with information about the best cycling paths to use on bike trips. They are usually parallel to roads and highways but on a separate lane, so cyclists are shielded from contact with vehicles. Build an itinerary that crosses villages, vineyards, and fields: the landscapes you’ll be riding through will blow you away. Evaluate the length of your bike trip 04 Once you’ve picked your destination, open a digital map, pinpoint the exact spot you plan to start riding and the

one you plan to end on, and calculate the number of kilometers you’ll be covering: it will allow you to evaluate the amount of days necessary to complete the itinerary. Make sure to include enough time for stops and breaks, as you’ll surely want to visit museums, sit in village cafés, and relax in the shade, in between cycling sessions. Pack the right clothes 05 Bike riding, even at a leisurely pace, requires the right kind of clothing gear to ensure maximum comfort and ease. If you’re planning a bike tour when it’s chilly outside, opt for long pants that are breathable and functional, and a sweat-absorbent top that’s lightweight and skin friendly.

A picnic by the water: 6 natural springs to discover and enjoy

16 ATMOSPHERE JUNE 2025

Shavuot is the holiday that marks the start of bathing season: as temperatures soar, there’s nothing better than heading off for a relaxing waterside picnic. Here are six natural springs across Israel that offer crystal clear waters, gorgeous landscapes, and maximum relaxation / By Ariela Aflalo

01 Ein Shokek, Valley of Springs

02 The Nahal Snir nature reserve, Upper Galilee Also known as Nahal Hasbani, Nahal Snir, a Jordan River tributary, flows through one of the Upper Galilee’s most beautiful nature reserves. Its waters gush out from amongst the trees that grow all along the riverbed, creating an atmosphere of wondrous penumbral shade. Waterfalls and wading pools abound, and there’s a picnic area at the entrance to the reserve. A little wooden bridge leads on to a birdwatching hideout on the edge of the Tapline Reservoir (an artificial reservoir that used to carry oil from Iraq to Lebanon and to the port of Haifa) - used nowadays for water storage, attracting ducks, egrets, cranes, otters, etc., that can

Next to it, between a hidden waterfall and the spring itself, a delightful picnic area has been created. Ein Shokek is part of the Valley of Springs Park, which also includes the Kibbutzim Stream, the White Waterfalls, Ein Migdal, and Ein Muda which has a huge pool, picnic tables and a camping site. The park isn’t accessible to cars, so access to the springs is possible only by foot, by bike, or by golf cart, which can be rented at the entrance to the park. Clean and clear waters fill up two pools – one natural, the other artificial. As part of a maintenance project by the Kinneret Drainage and Streams Authority, the spring and its surroundings have been entirely renovated, hiking trails have been created along the stream, and picnic tables have been placed near the water. The spring is well-kept and surrounded by trees, perfect for spending a relaxing afternoon with the kids or with friends - and for the ideal day trip picnic, stop at the supermarket at the entrance to the road to pick up some bread, a few dips, and a good bottle of wine. kineret.org.il 04 Nahal Hashofet has long been a favorite among nature-lovers in search of a spot to enjoy with the kids. A birdwatching tower looks over the area from above the pool and the herds of fallow deer, foxes, and caracals, active mostly during the night. The site has several pools you can enjoy, and just next to them there are picnic tables, including a couple that were erected inside the water itself. Just minutes from Yerushalayim’s hustle and bustle, we discovered a plot of land so pristine and untouched, it seemed frozen in time since the days of Tanach. Rich with Eretz Yisroel’s wild flora, its fields are a patchwork of green and gold set against the dramatic backdrop of rolling mountains. Breathtaking views spread for miles in every direction. When the sun dips behind the mountains, we often pause to watch it set. Here, we broke ground, on a mission to build a vibrant, Torah-true community like no other. One that would be peaceful, calm, and embrace the land it’s on. A place where families could put down roots and grow, in the one place on earth that’s truly Home.

We’re building to give the gift of space. Inside each 4+ bedroom home, we’ve designed spacious rooms with high ceilings, clean lines, and oversized windows that capture the area’s breathtaking views. Outdoors, we set aside 8.5+ acres of community gardens, parks, and walking paths that beckon adults and children alike to wander freely and breathe in the land. Shared spaces help foster an organic sense of community, bringing neighbors together to connect, learn, daven, and celebrate life’s milestones. These include shuls, schools, a simcha hall, gymborees and a 32,000+ sq ft fitness complex with a pool, gym, and spa. A shopping center and office building finish the picture, for a neighborhood that has everything a family could need. If you’re dreaming of living in Eretz Yisroel — in tranquility. Of setting down roots in a Torah-true environment that’s passionate, warm and welcoming. Of experiencing the feeling that comes with living out your dream, of knowing you’re in the place where you truly belong.

The town’s Burge Khan, a beautiful Ottoman building surrounded by avocado trees, lawns, and beds of gorgeous flowers, is the very place Kaiser Wilhelm II stayed before meeting with Herzl. The building was later purchased by the Baron de Rothschild for the Zionist pioneers of Zikhron, who during the British Mandate moved from Zikhron to Binyamina. Lyra Studio Ceramic tiles

Painter Liora Gilboa has exhibited her work in galleries in Israel and abroad. Together with her husband Rami Meirov, himself an artist specialized in ceramic tile design and formerly the owner of an Indian art gallery in San Francisco, she owns a ceramic tile workshop here in the Artists’ Stables. The ceramic tile wall by artist Hava Kaufman, as displayed in the Knesset, is what initially got Gilboa into ceramic tile design. Exploring every color, design, and style, their work is inspired by nature and the beauty of animals, and you can even request they paint a portrait of your pet onto one. lyra-art-studio.com ˆ Good to know: On Sundays and Mondays, it’s mainly just the coffee shops that are open. The Technion: A Century of Israeli Pride

The Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, was established a quarter of a century before Israel’s founding. Today, it ranks among the world’s top universities and is celebrating 100 years since it opened. A century of groundbreaking research, teaching, and national mission; 100 years of contributions to Israeli society, economy, and security

Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover from the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine (the first Israelis to win a Nobel Prize in science); Professor Dan Shechtman from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering; and Professor Arieh Warshel , a graduate of the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry. architecture, research, and education are the result of collective efforts by its community and devoted friends in Israel and around the world. These longstanding supporters are ambassadors for the institution, providing not only generous financial support but also advocacy, strategic guidance, and crucial connections to Jewish communities, academic The Technion’s achievements in science, technology, medicine,

From the moment of its birth, nearly a quarter of a century before the establishment of the State of Israel, a central element of the Technion’s mission has been to serve the nation. The story of its first hundred years offers a fascinating lens through which to view the history of Israel. It is nearly impossible to imagine the modern State of Israel, with its strong economy and scientific and technological achievements, without the Technion. From the pre-state era through wartime, the rise of Startup Nation, and world-leading scientific breakthroughs, the Technion has always been there. In its first academic year, the Technion had 16 male students and one female student. Most of the instructors were immigrant professors who barely

spoke Hebrew, and the infrastructure was minimal. Yet from that modest beginning – on simple wooden benches – the Technion began its steady rise. A National Mission Today, some 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students study at the Technion. In the “centennial class” that began this year, there are 2,100 students – nearly 48% of them women. The Technion has grown from a single department to 18 faculties, and from one humble building to a global institution with a presence on campuses in China and New York. It employs thousands of academic and administrative staff and proudly counts four Nobel Laureates among its faculty and alumni: Professors Avram

Informative content

The founders of the Technion could not have envisioned the profound impact the institution would have on the Jewish community and, later, the State of Israel. As the late President Shimon Peres once said, “Had the Technion not been founded before the State of Israel, we would not have been able to prepare so well for the future.” In the next hundred years, the Technion will continue to conduct groundbreaking research and educate the next generation of scientists, engineers, physicians, educators, and architects who will secure Israel’s future. Celebrating 100 Years To mark its centennial year, the Technion is hosting a series of celebratory events, including conferences, hackathons, a festive sports race, and a special digital archive presenting the institution’s historical timeline. The highlight is the annual Board of Governors meeting taking place this month (June 2025), bringing together hundreds of Technion supporters and partners from around the world. The Israel Postal Service has issued a commemorative stamp, and a new documentary film by director Uri Rosenwaks – Technion 10² – tells the story of the university’s first 100 years and is being screened in Israel and abroad.

Transfering Advance Technologies to Industry Each year, it launches around 15 startups, transfers advanced technologies to industry, and its

institutions, and leading global companies. The Technion has always played a central role in the national mission of training highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals. Its graduates have played key roles in numerous Israeli inventions, including drip irrigation, the USB flash drive, a miniature satellite launched in 1998, Parkinson’s treatments, data compression standards (like the Lempel-Ziv algorithm), DNA-based electronics, innovative diagnostics, lab-grown meat, an exoskeleton for paraplegics, and missile defense systems whose value is clearer than ever today. Since its founding in 1924, the Technion has trained approximately 100,000 undergraduates in engineering, science, architecture, medicine, and education. And its Graduate School, established in 1956, has awarded more than 20,000 master’s and 5,000 Ph.D. degrees. Graduates of the Technion occupy leadership roles in Israel’s economy and globally, advancing basic and applied research in academia and high-tech industries, managing companies in construction and industry, and contributing to urban planning, water and energy infrastructure, medicine, and more. The University and its alumni have been key to Israel’s emergence as the Startup Nation.

researchers collaborate on R&D with companies from Israel and abroad. In recent years, the Technion has actively invited major corporations to relocate their R&D centers to the Technion, enabling close cooperation with faculty and students. The first to do so was U.S. tech giant PTC , which moved its 100+ employees to campus. Today, the Technion is engaged in cutting-edge research partnerships with leading global companies, including Boeing , IBM , Teva , Nichia , and others. Intel has named the Technion one of just six of its strategic academic partners worldwide. The Technion campus is a small city of its own, located on the slopes of Mount Carmel overlooking Haifa Bay. It features dozens of buildings with world-class research infrastructure and many interdisciplinary centers that bridge knowledge fields and connect science with engineering. Some 5,000 students live in on campus housing – the highest number among Israeli universities. The campus offers a major sports complex, swimming pools, a movie theater, a visitor center, daycare facilities, a synagogue, cultural clubs, restaurants, grocery stores, and more.

Magazine I Interview By Sara Lamm, Israel365

Nathaniel Buzolic (Nate Buzz) I Photos: courtesy of Israel365

Bridge Builder: A Conversation with Nate Buzz

With over 3 million social media followers, actor and activist Nathaniel Buzolic—known as Nate Buzz—has become a vocal Christian supporter of Israel. Guided by the promise that “God will bless those who bless Israel,” his advocacy has intensified since October 7 th . In a world of distortion, voices like Nate’s cut through the noise with sincerity and strength. I spoke with him about the experiences shaping his mission. Sara: You’re known for bridging Christian and Jewish communities. What misconceptions do you find each group tends to have about the other? Nate: Misconceptions between Jews and Christians are sadly a very common reality that I am a witness to today. Before coming to Israel in 2017, I was in a very similar situation myself. I found an incredible rabbi by the name of Rabbi Pini Dunner, and it was

he who graciously allowed me to come to his synagogue during Shabbat services. I listened, quietly observed, and gradually learned what it actually meant to be a Jew—according to a Jew. A Christian, in my opinion, should believe in the God of Israel, believe in a Jewish messiah, and have faith in God’s redemptive story. The Christian movement is not a religion but rather a Jewish movement motivated by a proclaimed messiah from 2,000 years ago. Sara: Beyond the popular tourist sites, is there a hidden gem in Israel you’d recommend? Nate: The Tomb of the Patriarchs is by far one of the most powerful locations to see. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob ensured their resting place would be known and protected. For Christians, it’s a reminder that the patriarchs are exactly where the Bible says. Hebron shows us God’s promise of

land was fulfilled—we can trust His promises. Sara: What has most influenced your advocacy since October 7 th ? Nate: The relationships that have most influenced my advocacy are those with the survivors, returned hostages, and injured soldiers. I think of people like Yarden Bibas, Agam Berger, Liri Albag, Sheerel Gabay, Tomer Zadik... Their stories have had a profound impact on my life. My advocacy work isn’t work— it’s a personal responsibility I have to people and communities who are in need of a friend. ˆ Sara Lamm is a writer with Israel365, an organization dedicated to strengthening Israel through bridge-building between Jews and Christians.

Lifestyle I Weekend Getaway

Good times and relaxation: a weekend by the Sea of Galilee

Hotels and vacation sites are reopening their doors all around the Sea of Galilee, breathing new life back into this gem of a region. We spent a weekend in Kibbutz Degania Bet, a picturesque countryside haven full of fun family activities to enjoy and fill the heart with hope / By Lihi Ron

Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities, as temperatures are still mild, and the flowers are in bloom. Israel’s beautiful north offers so many destination options. We chose Kibbutz Degania Bet, where the original, 100-year-old “Pioneers House” was recently refurbished into a guesthouse, after extensive renovations following its use as a temporary home for evacuee families. A countryside haven A 5 minutes’ drive away from the Sea of Galilee, Kibbutz Degania Bet is ideally situated. Though affordably priced, the quality of the hospitality here is very high. The family rooms are spacious, sleeping up to seven people, and are equipped with modern and

functional furniture, pampering bathrooms, cable TV, AC, and Wi-Fi. We spent the first night relaxing on the lawn, where a rich open-air buffet had been set up, brimming with delicious food catered by local chef Gil Green. As the drinks and music flowed, we enjoyed plates of roasted rainbow beets, smoked freekeh with fresh herbs and juicy brisket. From there, we moved on to the kibbutz pub, “Pensa”, a lively spot with a rich selection of draught beers. Breakfast with a view We awoke to blessed pastoral peace and tranquility, and made our way to the guesthouse refectory, which looks out onto green fields, and where an abundant breakfast awaited us, with a selection of local cheeses, fruit, vegetables,

baked goods, and homemade jams. Then, before setting off on a day of exploration around the Sea of Galilee, we took a walk around the kibbutz, which offers a range of fun family activities, such as tours of historical kibbutz sites like the old silo, the water tower and aqueduct, an escape room, and more. Degania Bet also has a chocolate farm, “Galita”, where you can not only taste delicious pralines, but also take part in workshops, as well as a delightful café called “Hannale’s”, that serves fresh homemade pastries and more. And aside all of this, there’s plenty of shaded seating areas, playgrounds, a swimming pool, and farm animal petting corners. Price: from NIS 850 per couple, per night, breakfast included. ˆ dganit.co.il
