Puccini’s Chinese princess Turandot fears marriage so much that she poses riddles to her suitors—those who fail to solve them pay with their lives. But when Prince Calaf solves her riddles, Turandot discovers the secrets of love and, more importantly, her humanity. In the Duchy of Mantua, Italy, we encounter Rigoletto , Verdi’s tragic court jester, who tries desperately to protect his beloved daughter Gilda from the men around her, only to unwittingly finance her demise, carrying her lifeless body at the opera’s conclusion. These four operas immerse viewers
in complex human stories, wrapped in beautiful, enchanting music that carries exotic scents from Egypt, Spain, China, and Italy - music that has topped the classical charts from its premieres to the present day. And perhaps most importantly, the operas are performed in their original languages, Italian and French, with English and Hebrew subtitles offered in ARIA’s productions on EL AL flights.
