The Spirit film festival, Tel Aviv Cinematheque

The Tel Aviv Cinematheque’s 17 th Spirit film festival will take place over four days with dozens of film projections, lectures, talks, and debates on spirituality and mind-expanding themes. The Spirit festival is regarded as one of the most important international cinema events in the world of self-enlightenment and spirituality. Among the fascinating subjects discussed at the festival this year: the story of a Chilean journalist who fought to bring the crimes of Pinochet to light and suffered from Alzheimer’s in later life, the journey of 20 thousand nuns across the Tibetan mountains, a documentary exploring the most recent discoveries in human consciousness, etc. This year, the festival will also, for the first time, hold its own Israeli short film competition (up to 30 minutes). The festival’s opening movie is “The Monk and the Gun” by Pawo Choyning Dorji, (“Lunana: a yak in the classroom”), a beautiful and deeply moving film shot in Bhutan and the Himalayan mountains.
