Once you’ve sent out your last personal and business messages and taken the umpteenth airplane selfie, it’s finally time for some serious YouTube surfing: here are three of our top picks for maximum entertainment

Caught in Providence Frank Caprio, a kindly municipal judge from Rhode Island, opens his court room to YouTube viewers. There’s something very special about how he presides over each hearing - so much so that more than 2.5 million viewers regularly tune into his channel, which by now has accumulated more than 500 million views. The kindness and humanity he shows the “accused”, is simply awe-inspiring. Sometimes, Judge Caprio addresses the children of the accused to involve them in the process, bringing on emotional interactions that are heartening to behold. One particular case that obtained more than five million views, involves a senior citizen of 96 accused of speeding while taking his 60+ year-old son to the doctor’s. Caprio’s sensitivity is extremely powerful to watch and will leave you wanting to see more and more of his clips.

Postmodern Jukebox This is a one-of-a-kind musical project in which a collective of performers all styled in vintage-looking garb play covers of contemporary hits. Performing with each of the many musicians and bands involved, is musician extraordinaire Scott Bradlee. The videos are all staged quite simply, with a single camera positioned at one fixed angle, as each band delights viewers with their own personal touch and clothing style. The combination of current hit songs and old-style looks allows for a very special audiovisual experience. Start with the channel’s earlier clips (notably Bad Romance and All About that Bass) before moving on to more recent ones – particularly the one with the perfect cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. The channel has reached 5.8 million followers and accumulated almost two billion views to date!

Carlomagno Araya Bossa nova aficionados will love this series of clips of the concert given by the symphonic orchestra Bossa Nova Sinfonico 21, in Costa Rica. Some of the greatest bossa nova hits are performed here by Brazilian vocalist Rose Max and accessible via drummer Carlomagno Araya’s YouTube channel, as he himself appears on stage with the orchestra for each song. Start with the uber-famous Girl from Ipanema before moving onto Corcovado, the Bossa Nova medley, and the rest of the beautiful melodies. However, I warn you: this stuff is highly addictive.
