03 Christmas in Mi’ilya Mi’ilya is one of the most beautiful Christian villages in the Western Galilee, with its picturesque little alleyways, stone houses immersed in greenery, and beautiful scenery. Christmastime is an especially magical time to visit this beautiful little village, as lights and decorations illuminate every street corner and window. A magnificent 12m Christmas tree stands at the center of the Greek Orthodox Church square, and to complete the holiday atmosphere, a traditional Christmas market sells decorations, gifts, and typical Christmas treats. A Santa parade with drums and dances will be held on Christmas Eve and the village’s traditional Christmas relay race, celebrating multiculturalism and unity, will be held on December 19 th . Corporation has three visitors’ centers, in Haifa, Ashkelon, and Hadera. A guided tour of the Rabin Lights power station will allow you to discover how electricity is produced from up close, be it via the use of coal, gas, sun, or wind. You’ll be able to see what the fuel storage process looks like and see the huge power station chimneys from up close. The tour ends with a climb up the pier that juts out into the sea, and you’ll be able to watch the ships unloading the coal. The Maccabees are thought to have been buried here (historians’ opinions differ), and if you have a flashlight, you can go down and see them from up close. The columns and mosaics found here date back to the Byzantine period, but researchers believe that what once stood here was a structure built by Shimon the Hasmonean in honor of his family.
