Meet Head of Operations, Asher Metzger “I love seeing one of our planes safely take off on time, knowing my team made that happen”

How did you start working at EL AL? “After the army, I was looking for a part-time job and started working as an EL AL ground crew agent before going on to other roles within the company. After 17 years here, I can safely say I’m in the best place I could have hoped for”. What does your position entail? “As the manager of a department of 150 people, it’s my job to oversee operations are carried out to optimum safety standards throughout the aircraft runways. Each flight needs to be checked and okayed by the runway supervisor so that everything goes smoothly”. What do you love about your job? “The feeling of satisfaction when I

see one of our planes safely take off on time, knowing my team made that happen”. Which part of your job do you find most challenging? “In the aviation world, unexpected challenges pop up every day. It’s our job to be ready for any scenario. Problems require immediate solutions, sometimes even before others notice there ever was a problem”. What do you always pack with you? “Earphones”. Which EL AL destination do you most enjoy flying to and why? “New York. It’s the best city in the world, from the mayhem of the city-center to the gorgeous beaches and wineries of Long Island”.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? “I love cooking for my friends and family”. What would you be doing now, had you not joined EL AL? “I’d probably be working in the restaurant business”.
