11. Until the arrival of Europeans, who brought dogs, rats and other mammals, Australia’s animal population consisted solely of marsupials.

(1) The only mammals in Australia before Europeans came were dogs and rats; all the rest of the animal population was marsupials. (2) The animal population of Europe consisted of mammals - animals such as dogs and rats - while the animals of Australia were all marsupials. (3) Marsupials were the only animals in Australia before Europeans arrived, bringing dogs, rats and other mammals. (4) Europeans brought dogs, rats and other mammals to Australia, but did not bring marsupials there.

12. The survival of the koala is threatened by the increasingly swift loss of its natural habitat.

(1) Areas where koalas live are being destroyed so quickly that the koala may become extinct. (2) Koalas depend for their survival upon the continuous growth of their natural habitat. (3) Koalas cannot continue to occupy their natural habitat, because their survival is being threatened. (4) The more koalas fail to survive, the greater the loss of regions in which koalas naturally live in.
