The final phase of Spanish Jewry was a true shattering of the vessels - bringing new life to Jewish mysticism even as Jews’ books as well as bodies were hunted down and burned. The expulsion gave birth to a completely new Diaspora with its own luminaries - intrepid explorers, self sacrificing Messiahs, determined rescuers and inventive entrepreneurs.
