Exhibition Face to Face, The Eilat Artists’ Gallery | Eilat
Painter Reuven Rubin’s grandchildren Gidi and Michal Rubin, he a painter, she a photographer, present their work in this joint exhibition in which closeness and absence coexist. Both artists take a deep and sensitive look at what it means to be a person, and at the notions of identity and presence - each in their own way: through light, color, image, and the unspoken. Michal takes pictures of family and friends in simple yet meaningful moments, Gidi’s works deal with the human figure, but not through portraits. Alongside the artworks, a film of interviews with the siblings, filmed in London (where they both live), is also screened, adding a layer of depth to the exhibition experience. (Curator: Céline Avrahami). December 4 th – Feb 7 th , The Eilat Artists’ Gallery, 2, Yotam st., Eilat
Performing Arts Nona, The Vertigo Dance Company | across Israel
Nona is a piece that explores the notion of time and how though it escapes us, is the only thing we really have in our hands. The dancers are placed at the center of the stage, in the middle of the race against time of modern life. The body is pushed forward, sometimes to the point of mechanicalness, repetitive movements, running - but staying stuck in one place. Then, suddenly, time slows down, opens, frees itself from urgency and allows for presence and observation. “Nona” was born from the seemingly simple question: “does time pass us by, or do we move within it?”. The title is based on the stories of three goddesses from the Greek and Roman mythology, who weave the threads of every person’s life. Like the threads they weave, in dance, time unravels and is woven back together, again and again. (Choreography: Noa Wertheim and Rina Wertheim Koren, in collaboration with the Vertigo Dance Company dancers). January 4 th – April 16 th , vertigo.org.il
