Reopening of the hotel that was hit by a missile |

Indeed, all through the winter months and until March 2026, the city of Eilat will be hosting 101 free and surprising activities for visitors of every age and walk of life, every day of the week, from morning till night. Operated by the Tourism Corporation, the project aims to bring people together and serve as a platform for local creatives and offer visitors the opportunity to discover their work and output.

“Just a place”, a new KKL-JNF initiative |

Closed for over two years, the Metula Travel Hotel will be reopening its doors this month after suffering a direct hit from a Hezbollah missile in April 2024. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the missile strike on Metula, but significant damage was caused to the upper and lower floors of the hotel building. The restoration process took over 18 months and NIS 3 million. The newly refurbished Metula location offers 27 rooms - including 4 vacation apartments, and 7 rooms with a balcony - and the hotel dining room, in which breakfast is served in the morning, has gorgeous views of Mount Hermon and the surrounding Metula orchards.

The KKL-JNF has launched its new “Just a Place” initiative that celebrates little corners of peace and tranquility in special and secret spots in the forests of Israel. “Just a Place” spots are carefully selected spaces in nature that invite you to take a little break, perhaps meditate, or do a bit of yoga – or simply sit and enjoy the beauty of the landscape. The first “Just a Place” was recently inaugurated in Begin Park in the Jerusalem Hills. The park was designed in adherence with ecological principles and invites passersby to sit down for a short while, put down their phones, breathe, and connect with nature and themselves.

A new luxury hotel opens on the Dead Sea shoreline | The Isrotel hotel chain recently launched its new Dead Sea location, the Kayma Hotel in Ein Bokek, declaring it the most luxurious hotel in Israel. Constructed at an investment of NIS 128 million, Isrotel describes this new venture as one that “redefines the concept of luxury resorts in Israel, in which every detail has been designed to provide a sense of peace, intimacy, and a unique connection to the surrounding environment”. The hotel offers 40 double rooms and suites, including some with direct access to the main infinity pool. The hotel’s central structure includes a reception area, a lounge, a restaurant and bar, as well as a spacious terrace looking out over the pool and the Dead Sea. On the second floor there’s a luxurious presidential suite with a huge balcony and private pool. The hotel also has a luxurious spa with treatment rooms, a relaxation room, saunas, a hammam, and more. Accommodation at the hotel is available for children from the age of 10. Price: from NIS 2,682 for two per night in a standard room, breakfast included.

Art The Outline Festiva | Jerusalem

The theme of the ninth edition of Israel’s biggest illustration festival, “Outline - Illustration and Words in Jerusalem”, is the notion of “the unusual”. Dozens of exhibitions, performances and events are set to take place across the city. Against the backdrop of the end of the war, the festival seeks to examine what happens when routine is disrupted, when shapes, colors and sounds go off track. The choice of “the unusual” as this year’s theme was conceived as a call for creative unrest, disruption, and questioning. The dozens of solo and group exhibitions will offer visitors the opportunity to explore innumerable interpretations of this notion, in myriad artistic forms, from illustration, to animation to installations, texts and happenings. Entrance is free. Until December 19, outlinejerusalem.com

“Man of Dreams” is the title Laurence Ziv’s children chose for this retrospective exhibition of their father’s artistic output. Ziv passed away in 2015 and was considered to be a veritable “Renaissance man” by those close to him. The exhibition showcases more than 50 of his works in domains as varied as fashion, interior design, painting, sculpture, drawing, music, and architecture. One of the most notable pieces on show is a ceiling fresco with colorful figures that represent life cycles which was inspired by Botticelli’s “Primavera”. Europe in the wintertime: 5 top tips to help you stay warm on your next European city break The winter months are an especially magical time to visit Europe, as Christmas lights illuminate the streets and squares of every city. We’ve put together five recommendations to help you stay warm throughout your stay / Nava Marton

01 Pack wisely. What you need is a layering system that’ll allow you to quickly regulate your body temperature as you navigate between the cold temperatures outside and the heated indoors. The first layer needs to be close to the body, ideally sweat-wicking thermal underwear, while the second should waterproof and windproof coat or jacket, is the layer that protects you from the wind and the rain. 02 The little accessories that make all the difference. To fight the cold, the body reduces blood flow to the extremities, such as the hands, feet, nose, head, and ears. Don’t forget to pack those little accessories that help keep those areas warm, such as gloves, a hat, woolen socks, and a good scarf. 03 Use public transport and make use of “hot spots”. It’s almost always warm in the subway, so do make strategic use of the transport system to fight the cold and plan your day so that every two hours or so you spend time indoors, somewhere warm, like a museum, a bookstore, or a coffee shop. A half-hour of quality time in provide insulation - fleece or lightweight down are excellent choices here; then, the third, a

a heated coffee shop with a hot drink can do wonders. 04 Protect your devices. Extreme cold causes batteries to drain surprisingly quickly. Keep them warm by keeping your device in an inner coat pocket, close to your body, and if you’re taking photos outdoors, try to put your camera back in your bag or pocket

navigate between the outdoor cold and heated environments. 05 The cold is part of the experience. Embrace the concept of “hygge”- the Danish notion that emphasizes the joy of simple pleasures, such as afternoon coffee with friends in a warm cozy atmosphere. Go to Christmas markets, enjoy a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate, try traditional winter dishes such as hearty soups and stews that’ll warm you up from the inside out, experience the joy of sitting beside a blazing fireplace in a traditional café or restaurant.

As Jerusalem begins to prepare for Hanukkah and Christmas and the festive spirit starts to set in, what better time to head over and visit its myriad wonders. In recent months, new hotels have opened their doors across the city, and many cultural sites are holding winter and Hanukkah activities, as well as exciting cultural and artistic events. Here are a few of the most notable. Lights everywhere Hannukah and Christmas in Jerusalem Illuminated tour: a guided evening bike tour through illuminated monuments across the city, including the Chords Bridge - illuminated with holograms and changing colors throughout the holiday season - the Knesset, the Old City Walls and the YMCA Tower. End with an (optional but highly recommended) stop at Sweet JLM – a sweets and pastries market on the Armon Hanatziv Promenade (travelingjerusalem.co.il). Hannukah menorahs: a music-filled tour of the Old City and its menorah illuminated windows and streets. Christmas in the New Gate: a Christmas market at the Armenian Quarter’s New Gate, with Christmas decorations, lights, sweet treats, and mulled wine – including Santa Claus’ house (open to visitors). Two million colorful LED lights illuminate the garden paths, the lake and the treetops, creating a magical atmosphere right in the heart of Jerusalem. An original musical soundtrack turns the tour into a veritable multi-sensory experience of light, sound, and movement. Dozens of light displays and giant light sculptures made especially for the occasion, including a 17m train, an illuminated Roman Gate, etc., line the garden paths, and, under the helm of chef Moshik Roth, a food festival with dozens of stalls offer visitors the chance to taste a variety of delicacies from around the world, such as Spanish patatas bravas, fish and chips, roasted chestnuts, sweet churros, alongside typical winter beverages such as hot cider, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and more. There’ll even be a stall serving dishes that “glow” – food lit up by ultraviolet light. A spectacular culinary experience for the eyes and palate. All dishes are kosher. A winter art market will also be set up, just like winter markets in Europe, with stalls selling artworks, and artisanal items. Where to eat Kosher and delicious: Dolphin Yam

The Bible Lands Museum I Photo: courtesy of the museum

Last year, 57 years since it first opened its doors, Dolphin Yam, one of Jerusalem’s most beloved fish and meat restaurants, became kosher. At the head of the new menu and kitchen is chef Oren Yerushalmi who has succeeded in creating beautiful dishes with precise flavors, including such starters as soft-boiled egg with crunchy brioche, ceviche and sashimi dishes, smoked eggplant carpaccio, and artichoke ravioli. Dolphin Yam prides itself on its expertise on all things fish, and the selection of dishes is truly impressive, from sea bass, salmon and trout to red mullet, sole, sea bream and more (grilled, cooked in the oven or fried). Meat dishes include 300gr premium entrecote (aged 40 days) with top-notch chimichurri, marinated chicken breast, lamb kebab, long-cooked asado, hamburger, and more. The wine and alcohol menu is rich and varied, as is the desserts' section – we recommend the wonderful vanilla ice cream with cherry tomato jam, halvah angel hair and tahini – an absolute delicacy. seadolphin.co.il

of the infinite wonders to be found in the National Library of Israel. But even before you dive into the wealth of its content, you can’t help but be overwhelmed by the beauty of the structure’s architecture, made to resemble the outline of an open book. The building extends across 46,000sqm and 11 floors of halls and galleries, including a huge three-story reading hall that spirals around a central open space. There are 200,000 books on Israel, Judaica, Islam, the Middle East (the third largest collection in the world), the humanities, and music, available for consultation, and an archive management robot can find you any book in about 20 minutes. The music collection, the world’s biggest collection of Israeli, Jewish, and ethnographic music, has been completely digitalized. Founded in Jerusalem in 1892, the library preserves the national memory of the Jewish People and is constantly updated with new items and publications. On cold rainy days, this is the perfect place to spend a whole day reading, visiting the grounds (we recommend joining a guided tour), and having coffee and pastries in the library café. There are

also many children's activities, such as plays and story-time afternoons, and during Hanukkah, many more activities are set to take place. nli.org.il Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations The Bible Lands Museum The Bible Lands Museum lies at a 10-minutes’ walk from the National Library. It possesses a unique collection of archeological artifacts and antiquities from the lands of the ancient Near East – the lands of the Bible: Sumer, Egypt, Babylon, Assyria, Canaan, Persia, Greece, and Rome. The museum’s guided tours open a window into the lives of the tribes and peoples living in these regions all those centuries ago, their religions, rituals, and ways of life. There are hundreds of artifacts on display, including ancient tools, gold jewelry, gemstones, sculptures, and more, and the museum also regularly organizes thematic exhibitions such as on the history of the development of writing, as well as training courses, experiential activities, and cultural events. blmj.org

Art The 9 th Biennale for Drawing in Israel The 9 th Biennale for Drawing opened in Jerusalem last month and will run until next February. It features 77 artists and hundreds of artworks all focusing on the notion of shedding. Shedding is one of the most fascinating and mysterious phenomena in the living world – that moment when an animal sheds its old skin in order to grow a new one, amounting to both an end and a beginning. The Biennale offers an opportunity to look deeper into this phenomenon via a wide range of works that all demonstrate the power and relevance of drawing as a medium still today. The main exhibition is held at the Jerusalem Artists’ House, with additional ones on display at Ticho House, the Jerusalem Print Workshop, and Koresh 14 Gallery. art.org.il/en

Not far from the Israel Museum lies the Valley of the Cross, a beautiful green lung in the heart of the city, full of olive and carob trees. The valley takes its name from the Christian tradition by which the cross on which Jesus was crucified was made from the wood of a tree that grew here. From inside the valley gardens, the views of the olive groves and ancient agricultural terraces are truly breathtaking, as is the adjacent Monastery of the Holy Cross, where Georgian monks used to live in the Middle Ages. The most famous of them was a man called Shota Rustaveli, the national poet of Georgia, who lived here around 1185. It was here that he wrote his most famous text, “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin”. The church that stands here today was built during the Crusader period (12 th century). From the large prayer hall, decorated with depictions of Christian saints, an entrance leads to the most sacred part of the church, the place where the tree of the cross grew. A series of ancient paintings tell the story of the tree, upon which the holiness of the monastery is based. The Maccabees are thought to have been buried here (historians’ opinions differ), and if you have a flashlight, you can go down and see them from up close. Third stop is a site known as “the Hagardi Ruins”, named after Matityahu’s eldest son Yochanan. The columns and mosaics found here date back to the Byzantine period, but researchers believe that what once stood here was a structure built by Shimon the Hasmonean in honor of his family. In 1944, the Zionist movement of “The Young Maccabi” designated this spot as the starting point of a torch relay race which has become a yearly tradition, this year taking place on December 16 th . thm.org.il/en/ 05 A tour of the Rabin Lights power station Hadera Hannukah being the festival of light, why not take the kids and head over to the Rabin Lights power station to learn more about how electricity is produced. This December 7 th , the Jewish community of London will have a chance to experience what true human strength looks like up close. The City of London is hosting a special gala evening dedicated to supporting the children of "Simcha LaYeled", the Israeli Organization giving hope to children with physical disabilities: a celebration of resilience, joy, and the power of connection Turning Pain into a Smile

In Israel, thousands of children and teenagers wake up each morning to challenges most of us can barely imagine - complex medical treatments, limited mobility, and growing dependence on their families and caregivers. For many of these young people, every day is a test of resilience. The journey can feel isolating, exhausting, and at times, devoid of hope. For more than two decades, Simcha LaYeled ("Joy for the Child") has been a source of light and connection for these children. This Israeli nonprofit organization supports children and teens living with physical disabilities but without cognitive impairment, accompanying them from early childhood through to young adulthood. Its mission is simple yet

profound: to restore joy, friendship, confidence, and a belief in their own potential, things that illness or limitation too often take away. "Every child deserves to grow up with a sense of value, connection, and belonging", says Eli Kellerman, CEO of Simcha LaYeled. "We are here to make sure that no child has to face life's challenges alone". A Unique Circle of Support What sets Simcha LaYeled apart is its holistic model of care that integrates social, emotional, and practical support. The organization offers long-term one-on-one mentoring, connecting each child with a dedicated volunteer who becomes a friend, companion, and role model. These relationships often last for

years, creating a consistent anchor in the child's life. Beyond mentorship, Simcha LaYeled runs social groups and enrichment activities across branches throughout Israel, visits more than 51 paediatric hospital wards, and organizes fully accessible summer and winter camps that enable children to experience independence, adventure, and friendship in an inclusive environment. The organization also recognises that families need support too. It offers emotional and social frameworks for parents and siblings, along with a "Next Step" program that helps graduates transition to adulthood with skills for employment and community engagement.

The evening promises inspiration and entertainment in equal measure: a live performance by international mentalist Lior Suchard hosted by actress and comedian Shani Cohen, a reception, networking opportunities, and the chance to hear first-hand accounts of the organization’s work and activities in Israel. The gala reception begins at 6pm and will be followed by the show and ceremony at 7pm. All proceeds go directly to supporting the organization’s therapeutic programs, mentorship initiatives, and family assistance projects. For many in the London Jewish community the evening is more than a fundraiser - it is a bridge connecting compassion-filled hearts across continents, an opportunity to meet the leaders and volunteers who transform the idea of kindness into a daily reality for children who refuse to be defined by their limitations. “Our partnership with London’s Jewish community makes it possible for us to go on transforming pain into joy”, says Kellerman. “It reminds our children and us all, that strength grows when we stand together”. How to Take Part: supporters can purchase tickets, donate, or sponsor a table at the gala through the official event link or via the London Gala Committee. Each contribution directly impacts the lives of children and families who rely on Simcha LaYeled’s work year-round. 7 December 2025 | A Night of Unity and Hope

This far-reaching network is powered by over 1,000 trained volunteers, many of them teenagers who receive professional guidance from educators, therapists, and social workers. Their energy and empathy constitute the organization's beating heart. Each year, more than 26,000 children and family members benefit directly from Simcha LaYeled activities, a testament to the power of community and compassion in action. Simcha LaYeled works in an ongoing and meaningful partnership with the Jewish National Fund (JNF), proud and grateful for its trust and support, including on the occasion of this upcoming event. Standing Strong in Times of Crisis The past year has tested the resilience of every Israeli organization, especially those serving vulnerable populations. In the aftermath of October 7, families of children with disabilities faced intensified hardship: sudden relocations, repeated hospitalisations, loss of medical access, and heightened anxiety. Simcha LaYeled was among the first to respond. The organization

swiftly evacuated families to safe and accessible areas, provided tailored psychological and therapeutic support, and created alternative recreational programs for displaced children. It also expanded its mentoring network to ensure every child continued to receive consistent personal support. This rapid response demonstrated not only operational efficiency but the depth of the organization's communal fabric. Volunteers, professionals, and donors mobilised overnight, proving that compassion, when organized, can truly move mountains. "Our community doesn't stop when crisis hits", says Kellerman. "If anything, it grows stronger. The children we serve remind us every day what true human strength looks like". In a world that often celebrates strength as independence, Simcha LaYeled offers a different vision, one where strength means connection, empathy, and shared humanity. By joining hands across borders, we can ensure that every child, no matter their circumstance, gets the chance to dream, to grow, and to smile again. ˆ

Dinings | Elegant and Japanese

After a long period of closure (first due to the pandemic, and then to the war), the Norman Hotel’s luxury rooftop restaurant has reopened. The menu - cocreated by Masaki Sugisaki, executive-chef at Dinings SW3 in London, and Daniel Tzur and Omer Shadmi, chefs at Elena, the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant - combines Japanese elegance with Israeli nonchalance, and is based on seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. Delicious appetizers are served on exquisite china plates, and classic sushi and nigiri balance out the menu’s understated innovations. Dinings reasserts the timeless authenticity of Japanese cuisine, even when located in the bustling heart of Tel Aviv. @dinings_tlv

This vibrant new Asian street food spot offers a refreshing rereading of Asian dishes and flavors, courtesy of chefs Ofer Elmaleh and Kobi Bendelak, veterans of the White City’s restaurant scene who dove deep into the roots of Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisines, clearing the table of any sugar, and basing their menu on natural ingredients only, resulting

in delicious, fresh, light dishes that offer intricate, delicate flavors. Dishes are served alongside spudo – a plump, brown bun filled with chicken, meat, or vegetables, and baked in a machine especially imported from Korea. Dagan uses both traditional handcraft techniques and innovative technologies, and each item is the product of continuous research and interrogation on the notion of the tension between functionality and decoration. The range of products includes a series of candles in lovely autumnal colors, that change shape as they burn, with the base of the candle being itself the candlestick, as it collects the drops of candle wax, allowing them to solidify once again and be re-used. silverspoonstudio.shop
