The future is just a touch away Last month’s annual IFA technology show in Berlin offered us a glimpse into the future, as a myriad new AI-powered products were presented to the world. Here’s our selection of some of the tech novelties to look out for in the coming months / By Guy Shahar
The rotating screen The Lenovo ThinkBook VertiFlex Chinese company Lenovo, renowned for its innovative ideas, came to the IFA with its brand-new laptop - a laptop with a rotating screen that can switch positions from horizontal to vertical with a simple click. This computer offers all the latest cutting-edge technologies as well as a sharp OLED screen that can switch its positioning just like a smartphone - a serious advantage for someone looking for a computer that has a large screen as well as all the advantages of a laptop. For a clean staircase Eufy MarsWalker Robot vacuum cleaners are no longer a novelty, but this new model comes with an extra feature: it can climb stairs. The Omni S2 by Anker, paired with the MarsWalker robot climbing unit, is exactly what you need for a thorough cleaning of the staircase. Other companies like Dreame and Ecovacs are all investing efforts in this area, so we will most probably see other such products arriving on the scene.
The portable screen Movingstyle by Samsung Samsung launched several products at the IFA, notably one that joins the category created by LG of the portable battery-powered screen. Samsung’s Movingstyle is a 27-inch portable touch screen with a carrying handle that makes it extra easy to move around between rooms, or even out into the garden. The battery lasts about three hours, allowing you not only to watch content, but also to use the screen to draw or work on it, just like a giant tablet.
The slimmest vacuum cleaner The Dyson PencilVac Dyson came to the IFA with its new PencilVac vacuum cleaner - a handheld vacuum cleaner, considered to be the slimmest in the world, with a diameter of 3.8cm (like a €2 coin). It is powered by the new Hyperdymium™ 140k
motor which provides strong suction in this compact form. Like other Dyson products, it has green laser lighting for detecting dirt, as well as the ability to connect to its own dedicated app. The hygienic syringe bin ejection system plunges dirt deep into the trashcan while wiping the internal filter clean in the same motion. The PencilVac will be available in Israel later next year.
