Lifestyle I Design

Graduating from design college is no easy task in these complex times we live in, so full are they with pain and chaos. But there is a future to be created and imagined, despite the immense personal and collective mourning, and a visit to Shenkar College’s graduation exhibit filled us with hope and delight for the future of Israeli design and creation. Here are five projects that caught our eye / By Adi Fogel Hollander Up-and-coming

Jewelry and Accessory Design “Made to be Held” Designer: Adar Nimni This bag collection explores the relationship between the body and the accessories we use every day. “Made to be Held” blends jewelry design with plant-based leather processing, and places an emphasis on the hand itself. For designer Adar Nimni, a bag is much more than a practical item, but rather an intimate object conveying personality, just like a piece of jewelry. The project focuses on the meeting between jewelry design and bag design, as well as that of the object with the body itself. adar_nimni

Fashion Design “Modern Conservatism” – Designer: Shira Reznikov Photos: Iddo Lavie

This project deals with the dilemma of preserving Orthodox traditions within the modern world and the relationship between conservatism and modern life. The collection looks at the notion of covering the body, like in the Jewish Orthodox world, versus exposure, liberation, discovery and multi-layeredness. The collection’s designs create a new silhouette that expresses both the clothing item’s body-covering quality, and the setting of new boundaries and the need to attain a balance between modern creativity and conservatism. shirareznikov
