Business I Technology
Electric cars have proven long ago that they're more than a passing fad, and there are new electricity-based inventions constantly making their way onto the market. Here's an overview of the latest innovations / By Guy Shahar The tech novelties of the month
The electric surfboard that flies above water
The electric revolution has by no means bypassed the world of water sports. There are electric surfboards, jet skis, and many electric solutions and accessories for all things boat related. Aside from the incredible electric surfboard, the eFoil, Australian brand Flite has launched a new electric scooter, the Flitescooter, that can fly above water. Its handlebars offer balance and stability, though more experienced riders can take them off. When fully charged, it has a range of up to 40km, and 2.5 hours of autonomy at a maximum speed of 50kmph. Price: €13,000.
The jumping car The Chinese automotive
The end of parking maneuvers? Mobis, owned by Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai, has created the e-Corner System especially for Hyundai’s Ioniq 5. The e-Corner enables all four wheels to turn 90 degrees, allowing the car to perform parallel parking in a tight space, rotating front wheels inside while rear wheels turn outside to perform a 360-degree idle turn and make a 180-degree turn to retreat from a dead end. The e-Corner System developed by Hyndai Mobis is considered to be the key mobility technology for electrification and autonomous driving. The e-Corner packages a wheel’s suspension, braking, and steering necessities into a free-standing assembly connected at the corner of the vehicle to an in-wheel motor. The system is yet to hit markets, but an impressive demo video presenting the system’s features has been launched and is available for viewing online.
manufacturer BYD has launched a brand-new luxury series called YangWang. A notable model is the YangWang U9, a fully electric supercar based on the next generation e4 platform, implementing quad-motor powertrains into its electric vehicles. The U9 offers an acceleration performance from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around two seconds. BYD has equipped the U9 with a self-developed suspension called DiSus-X, an intelligent hydraulic body control technology. The Yangwang U9’s suspension is so advanced, it can be driven on three wheels, or even jump a little while standing still. The U9 hasn’t yet landed on the market, but its price has been set to about $145,000 before import tax.
