Akko | The Efendi A cellar with history

Located in the heart of the Old City of Akko, the Efendi Hotel was established in one of the city’s most beautiful buildings, a 19 th century edifice, exquisitely restored to breathtaking perfection, turned into a pampering boutique hotel helmed by Uri Yirmias, chef and owner of renowned restaurant Uri Buri. A visit to the Efendi wine cellar is tantamount to going on a journey through time. The cellar still possesses traces of the Byzantine period, as well as of that of the Crusaders, a rare sight in a city that was almost utterly destroyed by the Mamluks. Nowadays, it is lined with hundreds of bottles of wine, stored at ideal temperature all year-round. The Efendi offers wine tasting evenings and the option to pair the wine with platters of locally made cheese, dips, and delicacies from the Uri Buri kitchens. efendi-hotel.co.il/?lang=en

Haifa I Hamarmoret A glass of wine in the middle of Talpiot market

Haifa has well and truly become a major player on the Israeli food scene, with bars and restaurants constantly opening. A nightlife hotspot, Talpiot market is a mix of food stalls and trendy eateries. Hamara Talpiot is one of the market’s most beloved restaurants. Owner Chef Ilan Ferron recently inaugurated its sister establishment, the Hamarmoret wine bar. Small and intimate with an outdoor patio, Hamarmoret serves a tight selection of top-notch whites and reds, picked from the restaurant’s 400-strong stock of bottles hailing from all four corners of the world. Crafted by Chef Ferron himself together with Chef Shadi Issawi, the food menu is mostly composed of finger food dishes that perfectly pair with the wine. @talpiot_hamara
