Past Progressive

משתמשים ב - Past Progressive כדי:

✓ לתאר פעולות מתמשכות לאורך פרק זמן מוגדר בעבר כאשר יש ביטוי זמן לציון אורך הזמן שבו התמשכה הפעולה :

Dan was fixing his car the whole afternoon..

✓ לתאר פעולות מתמשכות שטרם הסתיימו בנקודת זמן מוגדרת בעבר ( בשעה מדויקת בעבר הפעולה הייתה בעיצומה :)

I was working in the garden at 6:00 this morning.

✓ לתאר פעולות מתמשכות בעבר שבמהלכן התרחשה פעולה קצרה . ( הפעולה הקצרה ב - Past Simple ) : David and Orit were waiting for the bus when I saw them. While Rachel was cleaning her room, her mother came home.

✓ לתאר שתי פעולות מתמשכות שהתרחשו במקביל :

My parents were eating dinner while we were watching T.V.
