The Security Situation

A further challenge faced by foreign workers was the round of hostilities with Gaza that broke out in May 2021. Operation 'Guardian of theWalls' created an unusual situation of loudmissile alerts and rockets falling throughout thecountry that causedsignificant stress formany foreignworkers forwhomlifeunder a constant security threat is a new reality. Three foreign workers were killed during this round of hostilities, two of them working in the agriculture sector and one in the caregiving sector. The Commissioner's Unit published several Facebook posts in response to the security situation, the foreign workers' lack of familiarity with a routine reality of missile alerts, and the resultant stress. Some of the posts commemorated the workers killed while others highlightedMinistry of Defense instructions about how to act during an alert. Furthermore, the Unit provided swift response to relevant queries – both fromworkers and bureaus.
