Interview with Dana & Natalie By Hila, Arik, Beny, Sean, Yair and Kfir, 2 ו

Hila: Why did you choose to come to Israel? Dana: I recently graduated from university and saw a great opportunity to live in Israel for a year with the Masa programme. Even though I don’t have family here, Israel feels like home. It is a beautiful country and I love exploring the different cities. Natalie: I came to Israel because I just graduated from University and I found the adventurous opportunity to live here and teach English. I wanted to come to Israel because I wanted to learn more about Jewish culture. Arik: Where is more fun- Israel or England/ America? Dana: I am from London, but I think Israel! Both countries are quite different, but I’m having more fun being here! Natalie: Israel is more fun because it is a new environment and culture than what I grew up with. Beny: Where do you prefer to live? Dana: Israel at the moment! I think the weather makes it a

much nicer place to live in and it’s always more exciting to be in a new country. Natalie: I prefer to live in Israel. It is new and exciting to be here.

Natalie: In America we don’t wear a uniform. Yair: What’s the difference between the behaviour in Israeli schools and the behaviour in UK/USA schools? Dana & Natalie: Children have to put up their hand if they want to say something. Children also wouldn’t hug or touch their teachers! Israeli schools are very loud and everyone runs around inside- you are not allowed to do this in the UK or USA. Kfir: What’s the difference between Israeli schools and UK/USA schools? Dana: In the UK, schools start at 8:45am and finish at 3:30pm. None of our food is eaten in the classrooms. Our morning and afternoon snacks (fruit or vegetables) are eaten outside in the playground, and our lunch is eaten in the dining room! Natalie: U.S.A schools have cafeterias in elementary, the students do not usually bring their lunch. The teacher will also give out a hall pass if the student wants to use the restroom.

I like how caring the people here are, some people will even invite over a stranger for shabbat dinner! I can see myself making Aliyah. Sean: What’s the difference between Israel and USA? Natalie: Israel is unique because it is a Jewish state. The U.S.A is a much bigger country. Yair: What’s the difference between Israeli school uniform and UK/USA school uniform? Dana: At primary school I had to wear a light blue shirt, a navy jumper with the school logo on, a grey skirt and black school shoes.
