Second-hand and vintage candlesticks Material: metal

For those with a penchant for the classic look, there really is no substitute for old-fashioned gold and silver-plated candlesticks. In recent years, more and more people are enjoying buying vintage and second-hand items, with many vintage-lovers having turned their passion into a business. Osnat Harmati (The Way We Are), Yarden Tamari (Quel Chose), and Ayelet Bar (6 Plates) are three great examples of this, as they all resell items they previously collected – and you’re always sure to find beautiful vintage candlesticks in their collection. Frill Furniture Material: wood Furniture designer Gila Babich creates beautiful handmade wooden candlesticks made of maple and walnut wood panels, laid out and glued together to create a checkered pattern which she then places onto a carpenter’s lathe to shape and form into the candlestick. Babich says the checkered pattern expresses the duality between light and darkness, with the difference in color tonality allowing the wood to become itself its own negative, thus creating harmony from deliberate disruption. The candlesticks are useful, functional items, but also small, unique, personal sculptures to be cherished. frillfurniture.com

Esti Castro Material: ceramics

In her beautiful Jaffa studio, Esti Castro creates her candlesticks on her potter’s wheel, one by one, before hand-painting them in all the colors of the sea - or according to specific client requests - and glazes them with a transparent glaze. Each one is special and unique, designed in soft, rounded lines. As each candlestick is different from the other, we recommend coming to see Castro’s work directly at her studio to pick out the one, or those, you prefer. esticastro.com
