Editor’s Letter

Many of Israel’s nature reserves have recently reopened in the north - and what better way to usher in the new year than to head over and enjoy their spectacular views, hiking trails, and deep-rooted history. Our main article is chockfull of recommendations for fun things to see and do during the winter months, from a spa hotel getaway to a desert bike tour, a visit to the Natural History Museum, or a day out picking strawberries with the family. This month, the MUZA-Eretz Israel Museum is presenting one of the year’s most important photography exhibitions - Local Testimony 2024. With the Iron Swords War and the societal consequences of October 7 featuring heavily, the exhibition includes over 170 works by 69 photojournalists, and offers a multidimensional perspective onto the past year, with photographs covering a wide range of societal and cultural themes.

Also this month: a selection of new restaurants, a look into the “Tzav 8 for Designers” initiative – a project led by Israeli interior designers aimed at redesigning the rooms and living spaces of severely injured soldiers. Next month, “Tzav 8” will be raising funds so that 50 more Tel Hashomer Hospital rehab rooms can be redesigned and adjusted to help injured soldiers on their journey to recovery – and everyone can contribute (see p.28). And as always, this issue contains an overview of the month’s main cultural highlights, guides, tips, recommendations, and more. And again this month, we call for the release of the hostages, praying for their return, as well as for the safety of our soldiers.

Traveler’s Prayer May it be Thy will, Lord of Heaven and Earth, to lead us to peace and safety, to fly us in peace and safety to our desired destination, to find life, joy, and peace. Guard and watch us, we who fly the air pathways, cross the seas, and travel overland routes. Make firm the hands that guide the steering and sustain their spirit, so that they may lead us in peace and safety. For in You alone is our shelter from now unto eternity. The Lord bless thee, keep thee, the Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee, the Lord turns His face unto thee, and gives thee peace. Amen.
