Services for New Recruits In addition to these efforts, the Faculty Integration Office provides a variety of services to support new recruits, particularly those with families; these services include family services, mentoring, social programming, and workshops for new recruits, all of which can benefit from donor support. Career Development Chairs Support of Career Development Chairs enables the University to reward young scholars who have made outstanding contributions in their field of study. For those making their way in academia, such recognition is not only meaningful but impacts their advancement and professional development. Career Development Chairs enable BGU to reward excellence and inspire excellence among others, helping to create a culture of excellence here. We aim to establish an average of four new Career Development Chairs annually. With a gift of $1,000,000 a Career Development Chair can be named in accordance with a donor’s wishes. Professorial Chairs Among the most prestigious honors at BGU is the bestowal of a Professorial Chair. A Professorial Chair distinguishes its recipient as an esteemed scholar who has made outstanding contributions in their field of study. It is also a tribute to its patron, an individual who recognizes the value and importance of academic achievement. Professorial Chairs are granted to tenured professors who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in academia through theoretical or applied research, publications, teaching innovation, and departmental leadership. A chair is held by a single professor for his or her entire academic career and is then passed to an exceptional academic from the next generation of BGU scholars. The chair incumbent receives an annual stipend to support his or her research activities. The establishment of a chair lends prestige to the individual incumbent (the incumbent is recognized among his or her peers as a chair holder and is in an advantageous position in terms of competitive research grants) and establishes a foundation of permanence for a particular field of study for the host department, the University, and Israel in general. In supporting a Professorial Chair, the chair’s patron is promoting
academic and scientific excellence in perpetuity at BGU. With a gift of $2,000,000 a Professorial Chair can be named in accordance with a donor’s wishes. Reporting Reporting varies depending on the project supported. Donors naming a Presidential Recruit will receive an annual update from the new recruit, while those supporting a specific program or project associated with recruitment and retention will receive an annual update on the program during the period of support. Donors supporting a Career Development Chair or Professorial Chair will receive an annual report from the chair holder. In addition, the patron’s name appears on all academic papers written by the incumbent and on all presentations and publications from the professor’s research and study (note that for Career Development Chair holders this will be for the duration of the incumbency). This will continue in perpetuity, with the annual reporting continuing in the future, keeping the donor’s descendants abreast of the chair holder’s activities.
