BGU | Fundraising Handbook

In this way, scholarship support has broad impact, enabling individual students to realize their potential, fulfill their academic aspirations, and advance professionally, while strengthening the community, bolstering Israel’s workforce, and fueling the country’s economy. Enlisting Support for Undergraduate Scholarships The University distributes an average of $25,600,000 annually in need-based undergraduate scholarships and merit-based graduate and postdoctoral fellowships. Nearly half of this funding (both current and endowed) comes from the generous support of donors committed to furthering the academic aspirations of our students and promoting higher education in Israel. The remainder of the funding for scholarships and fellowships comes from BGU’s limited operating budget. Given the many demands on the operating budget and the large number of students requiring assistance, donor support of scholarships is always needed. Donors can choose to provide scholarship support for one academic year, several years (undergraduate degree programs are 3-4 years, depending on the program), or they may establish an endowed scholarship fund, the interest of which is designated for scholarships in perpetuity, impacting the present and the future. All donations in support of scholarships for students are greatly appreciated, and donors can specify to designate their support to provide scholarships for students studying in STEM fields, students who have performed national service, students from the South, first-generation students, Bedouin students, students of Ethiopian descent, etc. Donors can also establish a scholarship program, providing scholarships for multiple students annually for a period of years. • A donation of $3,000 will support one undergraduate scholarship for one year, while a donation of $100,000 will endow a scholarship to support one student each year in perpetuity. • Donors can also support scholarships for the outstanding students enrolled in the Eitan Program of Excellence. Program participants receive a full scholarship (covering their increased courseload which is larger than that of other undergraduates), as well as a living stipend, enabling them to dedicate themselves fully to their studies. A donation of $9,500 will provide one year of funding for an Eitan student.

Scholarship support is an investment in Israel’s future, contributing to the academic achievement and personal and professional development of the country’s future leaders who will pave the way forward and take Israel to even greater heights. Reporting Donors supporting undergraduate scholarships will receive an annual report, representative in nature and focus on students awarded scholarships by the University. The report can be written or in video form, as per the donor’s request.
